Air of Texas serves Houston and surrounding communities, with north and northwest Houston an easy drive from our Spring base. Inside the city you’ll find some of the oldest housing in our area. Neighborhoods like Oak Forest and Garden Oaks were built in the 1940s and 1950s, long before central air was standard.

Many of these homes had AC and ductwork added later, sometimes more than once, and additions often hang off a system that was never sized for them. Hurricane Harvey in 2017 and Beryl in 2024 also showed how flooding and long power outages hit outdoor units and attic equipment.

Houston questions

Asked by Houston homeowners.

Do I need a permit to replace my AC in Houston?

Inside the City of Houston, HVAC replacement generally requires a mechanical permit from the Houston Permitting Center, and the licensed contractor pulls it. Ask any contractor you hire whether the permit is included.

My outdoor unit was under water. Can I turn it back on?

Not until a professional has inspected it. Floodwater can damage electrical parts and controls and leave debris in the coil. Keep it off and call for an inspection before you restart it.

Can you add AC capacity for a home addition?

Often, yes, either by extending the existing system if it has the capacity or by adding a separate system. We’ll calculate the load before recommending anything.
