Air
Pine pollen in spring coats coils and loads filters quickly. Plan on more frequent filter changes.

The Woodlands was planned from the 1970s as a community built into the forest, and it shows. Homes sit under a tall pine canopy that keeps streets shaded but drops needles and heavy pollen. Both end up in outdoor units, filters and return grilles.

The villages span five decades. Grogan’s Mill and Panther Creek include some of the earliest homes, Cochran’s Crossing and Indian Springs followed, and Alden Bridge, Sterling Ridge and Creekside Park are newer. Large two-story homes commonly run two systems, one for each floor, so they need twice the maintenance and twice the chance for one to fall behind.

The Woodlands questions

Asked by The Woodlands homeowners.

How often should I change my filter during pine pollen season?

Check it monthly and change it whenever it looks loaded. During heavy pollen that can be every few weeks for a basic 1-inch filter. A deeper media filter cabinet holds more and lasts longer.

My upstairs system runs constantly in summer. Is something wrong?

Upstairs units fight attic heat and rising warm air, so they work hardest. Constant running can still mean low refrigerant, a dirty coil, leaking ducts or an undersized system. A diagnostic visit will tell you which.

Can better filtration help allergies in The Woodlands?

It can help. Whole-house filtration, UV air sanitizers or HEPA purification capture or treat more of what circulates through your home. We’ll recommend what fits your system’s airflow, because too restrictive a filter can hurt performance.
